The More Yourself You Become, The Better Your Business Becomes
"Who am I without my business? Who am I without the college degrees, the years of experience, or the letters after my name?"
During a conversation on The G Spot Podcast, our Dames founder Meghann Conter, reflected on one of the biggest journeys women leaders go on: remembering who we are and knowing we are worthy beyond our accomplishments.
After years of building businesses, leading teams, achieving milestones, and checking every box, there comes a moment when the next stage of growth requires us to reconnect with who we truly are.
Before the World Told Us Who to Be
When you look at The Dames now, we see so many ways of being. You have events with comedians as guests, characters that come up portrayed by Meghann and her team, and outlandish skits teaching us useful business lessons.
Meghann figured out how to infuse her love of performance in a way that’s impactful and authentic to her. What she discovered is that these skits are far more memorable than a book or a seminar.
So many women have that gold vein running through them, but unless we step back, we may never recognize its glow. Once we do, incredible things become possible.
The question then becomes: How can we get back to who we are, before the world hijacked and taught us otherwise?
After all, our gifts have been here all along.
The Years We Spend Becoming Someone Else
We’ve spent years, being influenced by college, corporate, external expectations on women, you name it. We’ve been pushed to be realistic while pretending our true self isn't alive.
We have the fancy car, the nice house, and the “perfect life” but we’ve disconnected from ourselves in the process. Becoming so disconnected that we don’t even recognize ourselves staring back in the reflection.
Who’s the woman underneath? How can we trust ourselves as business owners if we can't even say who we are without our accolades?
Every business challenge eventually points back to the person leading the business.
- Confidence
- Worthiness
- Visibility (especially for women)
- Trusting your intuition when others have reservations
- Standing your ground and leading with authenticity
The list goes on.
The longer we lead, the harder it becomes to separate the business from the person behind it.
When We Know Our Value, We Aren’t Threatened by Someone Else’s Shine
When women reconnect to ourselves, it sounds cheesy, but everything changes.
We get clearer on what matters to us because it's deeply connected to how we lead. Then we go deeper and find out how strong our intuition is, and we no longer need to look outside of ourselves for answers. Maybe just a nudge or two in the right direction.
We start thinking bigger. The ripple effects reach our families, our communities, and every part of our lives.
Our sense of self-worth shifts right alongside it.
When we know we are whole, even when we refer business elsewhere, we shine brighter. Other people's success is no longer a threat to our own.
When a potential customer would be better served elsewhere and we confidently make that introduction, everyone wins. The client receives the support they need, and we create a normalized environment where collaboration becomes natural instead of transactional.
Entire industries grow for the better when we have communities of people supporting one another and backing our plays.
Your Business Is Asking You to Lean in Closer to Yourself
When we trust ourselves, we create the space to build businesses that actually reflect who we are.
That’s where we find our unique edge and where authentic leadership begins. It’s where growth no longer requires us to become someone else.
This holistic reciprocity is what The Dames is built on, and it's why so many women double, triple, and even 10x their revenue.
We don't have to choose between growth and authenticity because maybe they were meant to be connected all along.
